So do not throw away your confidence; it holds a great reward. — Hebrews 10:35 (BSB)
Confidence Is the Strength of Faith
Confidence—parrésia in Greek—means boldness, assurance, freedom of speech, and fearless trust. It is the inner certainty that God is who He says He is and will do what He said He will do. Confidence is not arrogance; it is covenant assurance. Faith requires confidence because faith cannot function where the heart is unsure, unstable, or double‑minded. Confidence is the spiritual backbone of faith.
Confidence Is Rooted in God’s Faithfulness, Not Our Feelings
Feelings fluctuate. Circumstances shift. Emotions rise and fall. But confidence is anchored in the unchanging character of God. The writer of Hebrews warns believers not to “throw away” their confidence—meaning it is possible to let go of what God has spoken when pressure comes. Confidence remains strong when the believer remembers that God cannot lie, cannot fail, and cannot break His Word. Confidence is not based on how we feel today but on who God is eternally.
Confidence Must Be Guarded in Times of Pressure
The enemy’s strategy is simple: weaken your confidence so he can weaken your faith. He uses delay, contradiction, and discouragement to tempt believers to cast away their bold assurance. But the God-kind of faith refuses to surrender confidence. It holds steady when the answer seems slow. It stands firm when circumstances contradict the promise. Confidence is the shield that protects the heart from doubt, fear, and spiritual fatigue.
Confidence Positions You for Reward
Confidence “holds a great reward.” Reward—misthapodosia—means repayment, fulfillment, manifestation, and the arrival of what was promised. Confidence keeps you aligned with God’s promise until the reward comes. It keeps your heart expectant, your confession steady, and your spirit strong. Real Bible faith is rewarded not because of effort, but because confidence refuses to let go of what God has spoken.
Confidence Is a Choice You Make Daily
Confidence is not a moment—it is a posture. It is choosing every day to trust God’s Word above every other voice. It is choosing to speak the promise instead of the problem. It is choosing to stand when quitting feels easier. Confidence grows as the Word takes first place in your heart. The more the Word dwells richly within you, the stronger your confidence becomes.
Confession
I will not cast away my confidence. My trust is anchored in the faithfulness of God. His Word is Truth, His promises are sure, and His character cannot fail. I stand firm, I speak boldly, and I expect the reward of His promise. My confidence has great recompense of reward.
