“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.” Psalm 23:1 (BSB)

Provision is not something God occasionally does—it is who He is. Psalm 23:1 reveals one of the most important truths about abundance: lack cannot exist where the Lord is Shepherd. David didn’t say, “The Lord gives me things sometimes.” He said, “The Lord is my Shepherd,” and because of that identity, “I shall not want.” Shepherd is not a title—it is a nature. A shepherd leads, feeds, protects, guides, and provides. A shepherd takes responsibility for the wellbeing of the sheep. When you call God your Shepherd, you are declaring that your life is under the care of the One who never fails to provide.

To say “I shall not want” means you stop expecting shortage. You stop anticipating struggle. You stop assuming scarcity is normal. Sheep do not worry about grass, water, or protection—they simply follow the shepherd. Provision is built into the relationship. When the Lord is your Shepherd, you live with the confidence that He knows where the supply is, He knows how to get you there, and He knows how to sustain you along the way. Lack is not your portion because lack is not in Him. You are not responsible for creating your own supply—you are responsible for following the One who already prepared it.

This Truth breaks the lie that provision is uncertain or unpredictable. Many believers live with quiet fear, always bracing for financial pressure or unexpected need. But Psalm 23 dismantles that fear. The Shepherd does not lead into lack—He leads into green pastures, still waters, and restored strength. The enemy wants you to believe you are on your own so you will carry burdens you were never meant to carry. But the Shepherd carries the responsibility. You carry the trust. When you follow Him, provision follows you.

Living this way produces rest and confidence. You stop striving to make everything happen and start trusting the One who already knows the path. You stop fearing the future and start expecting goodness and mercy. You stop seeing provision as a fight and start seeing it as a flow. The Shepherd is not reactive—He is proactive. He goes before you. He prepares the way. He positions you for abundance. And because He is your Shepherd, lack loses its voice in your life.

Today is about embracing the Truth that provision is not a question mark—it is a guarantee rooted in God’s nature. The Lord is your Shepherd, and because He is, you shall not want for any good thing.
